چکیده
We present WFPC2 images in the F450W, F606W and F814W filters of the interacting pair of galaxies NGC 454. Our data indicate that the system is in the early stages of interaction. A population of young star-clusters has formed around the late component, and substantial amounts of gas have sunk into the center of the earlier component, where it has not yet produced significant visible star formation or nuclear activity. We have photometric evidence that the star-clusters have strong line emission, which indicate the presence of a substantial component of hot, massive stars which formed less than 5-10Myrs ago. subject headings: galaxies: elliptical and lenticular, cD — galaxies: individual (NGC 454) — galaxies: star clusters — galaxies: interactions

Secondary infall in galaxies could cause the angular momentum of the outer halo to change its orientation. The generation of warps due to this effect is studied using N-body simulations.

We review the properties of z > 5 galaxies studied with HST and with the Keck telescopes, and discuss the detectability of Lyα emission-line galaxies out to z ∼ 6.5 based on these data and ongoing narrowband imaging surveys. The brightest sources may show (R − Z) color breaks, although the high sky background at Z (λeff ≈ 9200 Å), makes such observations challenging for typical faint sources. K...

The GRAPE-4, the world's fastest computer in 1995-1997, has produced some major scientific results, through a wide diversity of large-scale simulations in astrophysics. Applications have ranged from planetary formation, through the evolution of star clusters and galactic nuclei, to the formation of galaxies and clusters of galaxies.
